Hi! My name is Emmie (class of 2027), I'm 16 years old, and I have been rowing for 4 years for Orlando Area Rowing Society (OARS). My sophomore year, I competed in my team’s 1st Varsity 8+, 4+, and 2x, along with the U17 8+ which I raced at Youth Nationals.
As a U17 rower, I take pride in my ability to row in competitive boats, as well as my versatility and excitement to race in multiple categories at a single regatta (in Dec 2024, I won gold in three different boats at one race!). I row both port and starboard in sweep boats, and excel at sculling as well.
Through rowing, I have learned the values of teamwork, collaboration, and dedication. I've raced at Youth Nationals every year from 8th grade onwards, medaling in 2023 in the U15 4x+ and placing in the top 10 in 8+ categories in 2024 and 2025. This April, I won gold in the Varsity 2x at the 2025 FSRA Sculling States alongside my amazing double partner, senior Mia Dansby, and won silver in the Varsity 8+ at Sweep States. I'm extremely thankful for my teammates and coaches, especially as a young varsity rower who is still learning and growing.
Since my brother introduced me to the sport, I’ve devoted myself fully and have loved every second. I am so grateful for the opportunities that rowing has provided, and I can’t wait to continue my rowing career in college!
“Very long strokes...these young ladies are swinging late. When you have that emphasis...it really helps the crew swing together. Here we’re seeing [OARS] and they are just cruising very very nicely.”
Where I am now: Rowing for Penn AC Gold this summer!
Check out my Independence Day Regatta gold medal in the U17 2x, and see me at the RowFest National Championship in Ann Arbor, MI!
